The Pig & Publican
When driving to Pig & Pelican, pay attention to your navigation system, because the restaurant is easy to overlook, buried in a roadside complex that is often missed when driving by. Some who dine here wished they missed its entrance, because the “Pig” part of the namesake is missing from the set menu, and only sometimes present on the daily specials menu; is there always pork on the menu? As of this publication, not even the cherry-picked reviews on P&P’s website references any “pig” type dishes, though the Thai Drunken Noodles get top billing from preferred reviewers. The menu leans Bavarian pub style, though salmon and mahi appear to be mainstays, and burgers are replete at any pub. Beware of upcharges to sundry type of changes, such as substituting a cheese on the burger; changing the bread type on a sandwich, adding a different mustard, or even switching a side dish – the menu is the menu, at least until the upcharges are added. As for the “Publican” part of the namesake, well in ancient Rome, a “publican” collected taxes, and in British culture, it is a person who owns or manages a pub. The restaurant’s logo suggests that it is the “pub” part of the establishment, and we do not contest that double-meaning because the drinks are robust and bartenders friendly, but hey, this is a resort town, so it should be hard not to deliver on the ‘pub’ part of the experience.
