Pie Pizza & Wine

Home of the oblong thin crust brick-oven pizza, Pie offers beer, wine, and few appetizer and salad options, all in a cozy former beach cottage that has been serving value-seeking diners for many years.  There are numerous specialty toppings and sauces from which to choose, including a ‘build your own pie’ allowing for custom ingredients.  It is hard to ruin thin crust brick-oven pizza served with beer and wine, and Pie does a good job delivering custom-order pies.  A craft beer selection accompanies your promptly served meal, but as a place with ‘wine’ in its surname, Pie has a surprisingly limited list of vino from which to choose, most of the selections from wineries that even if you heard of them, cannot be found in the premium section of your local store.  High-end wines are inconsistent with Pie’s menu, ambiance, and price points, however, as its beer and wine selections are modestly priced, as are its pies which, although shareable in theory, are really single-serve sized.  You might miss Pie when strolling through downtown Bethany Beach, as it is tucked into a small former residence off the main street, so best to make it a destination if brick oven pizza captures your culinary fancy.  If you find the wait too long, walk a few blocks east to Pomodoro’s take-out pizza, a more traditional pizzeria that offers fine to-go slices, but no beer or wine.
