Nalu Surf Bar & Grill
Promoted as an open-air family restaurant with a pacific island fusion cuisine and theme, Nalu presents at two locations, Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach, both with the same menu, look, and feel. For more than 15 years, Nalu has served Dewey Beach visitors with a Hawaiian and South Pacific (née Polynesian) inspired menu featuring skewers, potstickers, poke bowls, coastal sandwiches and a burger bar, along with a tasty build-your-own pad tai that is unique among local Delmarva restaurants. Nalu Rehoboth has not been serving as long, and caters to a more family crowd that does not have a drink-first restaurant mentality, instead hoping to enjoy a friendly meal without the buzz of a club. Nalu Dewey shifts from a family restaurant to a live music club in the evenings, which generally avoids the undesired frat boy audience for which Dewey Beach is sometimes known, catering more to baby boomers who do not appreciate the amps turned-up to maximum capacity. Both Nalu locations offer friendly service and good food, but neither are fine culinary destinations. If you prefer a relaxing Pacific Islands-themed meal in a friendly environment, especially when the weather cooperates, Nalu meets the challenge, with no leis or hula skirts required, but certainly acceptable. For evening entertainment, Nalu Dewey is a fun time with a lively, albeit slightly older, crowd enjoying sing-and-dance-along music, along with flavorful cocktails and more, but without the raucous behavior often defining Dewey nightlife.
