Fenwick Crab House

Crabs, crab appetizers and entrees, and more crabs, large, small, and everywhere.  Traditionally, all-you-can-eat crab houses are soiled and dingy – the way you’re supposed to enjoy crabs, after all, eating hard shells is by its nature a sloppy endeavor.  Fenwick Crab House is no exception, but it is among the more sanitary of the all-you-can-eat beach joints, and better, too.  You want crab but don’t want to fight the shells, order among the numerous crab-inspired offerings that will tickle your crab delight without staining your shirt with flying crab parts.  If you can manage the availability and cost of ‘jumbos,’ Fenwick Crab House does not disappoint; indeed, they really are jumbos, reducing your cracking and fighting with the crabs, but also at the same time, reducing your wallet.  While the menu offers other coastal options, including nothing that cannot be dropped into a fryer, the real star is the crabs, and they are bountiful.  You will find all-you-can-eat crab options on nearly every street corner in Ocean City, starting a few blocks south.  But north of Route 54, whose hum of cars you can hear from inside, only a few restaurants are brave enough to sacrifice their flooring to permanent Old Bay stains and odor, and this place stands out among the others.  Come for the crabs and leave messy but delighted.  And if you just want a crab cake, they are among the best in Delmarva with almost no filler; indeed, while our word should be enough to form all of your dining opinions, Food & Wine Magazine in 2023 rated Fenwick Island Crab House’s crab cake as one of the best in the country.  Summer lines sometimes abound at Fenwick Crab House, so best to arrive early and with an appetite, because the best crabs in the daily-arriving bushels go quickly, and if you prefer a later sit-down, be prepared to work harder smashing all-that-is-left smaller crabs.
