Crabcake Factory
There are three Crabcake Factories in Delmarva, and the Selbyville location is the only locally ‘franchised’ version, but offers generally the same fare as the others: crabcakes and crab inspired and seafood dishes, and all of them good. CCF Selbyville, the only one we have visited, is basically two separate restaurants under one almost full roof: inside is a sports bar with thumping music and plenty of TVs, and lots of eating, drinking, cheering, and action. Around the perimeter is the outside restaurant with covered seating, offering Assawoman Bay marsh views and music-themed dining – and lots of crab dishes. The menu boasts of crab cakes and more crab dishes, and portions are generous, with crab cakes priced by the ounce and/or your preferred fixins. The crab cakes are far from factory-style (ignore the restaurant’s name), and are comprised of mostly sweet Maryland crab meat with little filler, broiled as you prefer. Known also for Bloody Mary’s, at CCF you will find several versions of the classic, each with its own spice or lump of crab meat, and all sporting more than a hint of Old Bay spice – this is Delaware, after all. One pleasant surprise is the Philly cheesesteak, the real-deal with your choice of cheese, including Whiz for the authentic Philly diner in you. CCF’s cheesesteak, as odd as it seems, is by owner design about the closest to an authentic option as you will find in Delmarva. But no matter your food preference, CCF is a great place to meet friends, have a crab cake or other coastal inspired dish, listen to music or watch the game with some great libations, sit by the bay, and have some fun. An ‘old school’ shanty type of restaurant favored by locals, CCF is the type of place where everybody knows your name, as long as you are rooting for the right team during game day.
