CoCoLo Sushi
Open Tuesday-Saturday and only for dinner, CoCoLo Sushi is, as of this writing, one of only three Delaware beach sushi restaurants below the Indian River Outlet Bridge, and more than up to the challenge of its competitors relative to price and quality. First, ignore the strip mall location and ambiance; you are there for fresh sushi and good service – CoCoLo does not pretend to be Nobu. CoCoLo (which refers to Afro-Caribbean migrant descendants) offers all the expected neighborhood sushi favorites and does not stray from the standard fare rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, but does not offer much for the tag-along land lover in your party. For some peculiar reason, high-end sushi is not prevalent in Delmarva, but CoCoLo tries, as the fish is always fresh, portions generous, and the service always reliable. Some may find the atmosphere a bit pedestrian, and CoCoLo never seems to be too busy, a good thing when you elect at the last moment to grab sit-down sushi or order it to go, the way most enjoy sushi these days. Its chef has helmed other sushi restaurants in the area, settling at CoCoLo, bringing along his stellar reputation for fresh fish and care in crating rolls and specials. CoCoLo never dissapoints, but is not (yet) a sushi star, as it needs to be more curious and inventive in sushi combinations. More than standard fare and less than standout, CoCoLo is consistent and worth a visit.
