Sazio
Big Fish Restaurant Group’s Sazio tries to return diners to 20th century coastal Sicilian landscape dining, captivating audiences with sometimes flavorful Italian cooking and servers who, when the team is aligned, which is not often, work the floor with a bit of flirt and flair. Americanized Italian dishes await the patient diner at Sazio, patient because the service can be uneven in attention, especially when large groups are present, which is frequent given that Sazio offers plenty of large tables for family gatherings. Beware, the website reservation system can be prickly and sometimes leaves lingering charges, but upon arrival your group is well-received and ushered to, hopefully, a table on its magnificent deck. When translated, ‘sazio’ means full, stuffed, satiated, which sounds about right when you’ve completed your non-region-specific-Italian meal, especially if you indulge in one of its many desserts. Sazio’s pasta and fish dishes more than pass the Italian-flare test of preparation, and its drink menu is bountiful but curiously devoid of an appealing Italian wine selection. BFRG’s restaurants in Delmarva typically cater to a mass audience, and you get that feeling at Sazio, but on any given night its kitchen can surprise with careful cooking and preparation, even if you feel a few steps removed from a cafeteria approach to Italian cooking.
