Saketumi
Modern Asian cuisine has its roots in traditional methods including stir-fry, boil, roast, steam, and braise, the general approach adopted by Saketumi, which boasts popular dishes from Japan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea. One-stop shopping for most categories of Asian cuisine, including pad thai, hibachi, dim sum, tempura, noodles and rice, teriyaki, dumplings, and, of course, a sushi and sashimi bar. Saketumi offers over two floors nearly every popular dish from these Asian countries, none of them outstanding or return-worthy memorable, but all of them more than adequate to satisfy any Asian food desire, seemingly with a dash of extra sodium to capture your fancy. It presents as the Walmart of Asian food, with a wide variety of dishes, ample parking, easy in-and-out, and reservations almost always available, along with efficient, though sometimes labored, seasonal service. The menu is strictly a la carte, and Saketumi enjoys a huge takeout and commercial delivery service, so the sushi chefs are very busy, as is the restaurant on many nights, with a light buzz about the large tourist parties. For years, Saketumi has been a stable, pleasing Asian food option that offers something for every diner, kids and families welcome and encouraged. While some specialty rolls adorn the menu, sushi presents as your local neighborhood standard fare, not excellent, but always fresh and good, the type that you are more likely to take-out rather than make a special trip to enjoy at the restaurant. Saketumi will continue to occupy a Rt. 1 location as long as tourists demand Asian food while on vacation, which means, as long as it prefers to stay in business, humming along outside the hustle of downtown Rehoboth Beach, and good enough that there is never a risk of letdown.
