Michy’s Relaxed Dining

Fun fact: co-owner Michelle (after whom Michy’s is named) has attended more than 200 Grateful Dead concerts, and collectible Dead props casually adorn the restaurant’s walls.  So does the Union Jack, pride of U.K. native husband Richard, head chef, whose prior cooking includes well known South Florida restaurants.  Richard also prides an open kitchen, observing in trade publications that cooking is part theater . . . and what a show he puts on.  Taking reservations only Wednesday to Saturday, Michy’s is a gastronomical treat, opening with among the craftiest list of Rehoboth’s most inventive cocktails, including drinks with special sugars and hints of magnolia, with the second act consisting of carefully prepared appetizers tickling every food type fancy.  For the third act, the popular Rigatoni Bolognese is a careful combination of meats and cheeses, floating in homemade red sauce, which dish is so dense it could be shared with your table neighbors.  Chef has particular creativity with fish, especially when halibut is on special, sauced just right.  Michy’s boasts a “relaxed dining” concept no matter whether inside the main room, at the bar, or even outside even when there is a touch of grey or easy wind in the sky, exhibited by the repeat local customers who regularly frequent – they keep returning because the food and service are consistently among the most pleasing in Delmarva.  You wouldn’t know it given the strip mall location truckin’ along Coastal Highway (Rt. 1), but once you pass through the door, you really are relaxed, especially because you know a good meal and an unbroken chain of friendly service is on its way.
