Mancini’s
America is littered with scarcely passable chain and independent ‘American style’ Italian restaurants, many of them local ‘red sauce joints’ masquerading as fine Italian – after all, Italian cuisine is the country’s No. 1 ethnic food, by far. Nobody will mistake Mancini’s Brick Oven Pizzeria and Restaurant for fine Italian dining, just opening the front door dampens any such expectation. Mancini’s is a red sauce joint catering to families and seniors who want quick American-inspired Italian fare, including pizza, and do not expect much more than Olive Garden in terms of quality or price. A mainstay on the Fenwick Island strip for years, Mancini’s delivers exactly what you might expect from a chain restaurant with a brick oven, and not much more. Its red sauce is standard fare, poured generously on everything, with a recipe that seemingly allows it to be prepared by the gallons. But why change a successful business model, because for many years, Mancini’s packs them in during its 5:00pm – 9:00pm window, and you’re home quickly without too much indigestion and, unfortunately, without too memorable of a meal.
