Aqua Bar & Grill
It may be laughable when someone claims he reads an R-rated magazine for the articles; it may be equally laughable when the same person claims she or he visits Aqua Bar & Grill for the food. Aqua presents itself as LGBTQ and canine friendly casual dining, known for its “unique and spacious outdoor deck which enables wonderful gatherings,” a moniker that is true in every respect and defines the glamorous Rehoboth Beach institution. Aqua is a meet-and-greet restaurant-bar with neo-coastal classic comfort food, including salads, burgers, tuna and salmon bowls, and pizzas, all of it more than adequate, but certainly not high-end. Most do not visit Aqua expecting a culinary delight, however; drinks, electric atmosphere, mingling, and meeting are the draw, with food along for the for the partying journey. Aqua sponsors many special events, DJs, bands, dancers, singers, cabaret type shows, and all of its festive, just like the regulars and vacationers who dare to visit alone, as all are welcome and embraced. Some complain about inattentive and sometimes shirtless servers and patrons, long food wait times, and being snubbed, but most observers compliment the great vibe and fun-and-sun atmosphere where everyone is welcome and the drinks flow freely. Aqua Grills’ servers are actually an impressive lot, in that they manage to remain upbeat and upright while transporting food through a maelstrom of bodies often congregating around tight tables. Aqua enjoys a special reputation in Rehoboth Beach cultural history, and for good reason, because it fills an important entertainment and restaurant need, and has become an institution. Aqua Grill has been a Rehoboth Beach staple for years, is open and welcoming to everyone, and may offer the best upbeat and fun atmosphere in Delmarva, even despite its limited cuisine.
