Warren’s Station

Warren’s Station boasts that it is a “family restaurant since 1960,” the year the restaurant seems to be stuck in given its furnishings, trappings, and approach to dining.  1960 also seems about the birth year of most of its patrons’ children.  Warren’s is not more than a diner, and not a great one either.  The food is seemingly right off the Sysco truck and so too, apparently, is everything else, including its ubiquitous generic offerings.  Food and restaurant critics may debate the wisdom of serving off-brand (nee generic) condiments, jams, sauces, and the like – what message does it send?  Yes, they are inexpensive and perhaps help lower menu prices, and many diners do not notice or care about brand names.  But when you’re being offered cafeteria-tasting food, perhaps a Heinz ketchup, or at least a bottle masquerading as a name brand, might render the fare more palatable.  Not at Warren’s, where every opportunity to offer you the simplest dish possible is seized upon so that you can dine quickly and efficiently.  Warren’s doesn’t lose credibility because you never heard of its off-label condiment brands; it never first gained the credibility to lose.  So, let’s be fair, visit Warren’s because you will never have to wait for a table; can bring in busloads of family and friends who you care not to impress; and because the food is inexpensive and quickly delivered (with a very attentive staff).  Treat it like the diner it is, and you will not be disappointed, unless of course, you expect more than diner food quality.
