Striper Bites
A 20+ year neighborhood restaurant and bar now owned by the local Big Fish Restaurant Group, Striper Bites features exactly the seafood haunt food you think it would have given its name and downtown Lewes location. Sure, there are land options, but seafood, fresh-off-the-boat, fried, and every other way, are the signature dishes, even sandwiches and starters lean toward the sea. While sushi also dots the menu, Striper Bites has the fish town, New England look and vibe, a place where everybody either knows your name, or, at least, pretends to know your guests and you, a friendly local place to grab a seat, drink, and chow. Happy hours are actually happy at Striper Bites, not just because of the discounted food and drink, but because the place is jumping with everything except actual striper (fish) bites. Big Fish’s ownership has brought more of a corporate approach to the menu and pricing, but also much needed attention to service and detail, which, naturally, means higher pricing. Still, Striper Bites has been a Lewes institution for decades and deserves your attention if not for the sometimes meh menu items, then for the romance of dining in a former fishing town old haunt in a fishing town style of restaurant, walking distance to nearly all Lewes attractions, including other restaurants offering essentially the same fare.
