Shaka Shack

The shaka sign in Hawaiian culture loosely translates to ‘hang loose,’ ‘thank you,’ or ‘right on.’ You will be saying none of those things after eating the flavorless, tasteless food at Shaka Shack, a former take-out, walk-up shack that migrated a few months ago to a sit-down restaurant bar. The last time we visited, there may have been one server / greeter, and given the food, perhaps she also also acted as chef wen not being the cashier for our walk-up bill.  Most everything is fried, but what is grilled should be fried given its taste and presentation; indeed, even the burger was presented like it stoked the fires of hell; its taste made us think we arrived there.  Shaka Shack cannot possibly ruin beer and mixed drinks, and its cute beach-themed bar invites locals looking for cheap eats while catching a game on its several TVs.  But nobody with a serious appetite would consider the Shack for anything other than a place to drink and watch sports, enjoying at best, stadium-style fare.
