Northeast Seafood Kitchen
Another gem from the local SoDel Concepts restaurant empire, Northeast offers NE (New England) style seafood in a relaxed indoor-outdoor setting with the customary SoDel attentive and personable service. Daily specials dominate the coastal seafood menu, with many shellfish-inclined diners choosing among the various lobster and clams entrees, all of them simply and tastefully steamed and prepared. New England style cooking in an open kitchen includes a playful Delmarva twist, especially when it comes to the starters, often a meal onto themselves – you will be tempted to just order appetizers, as they are that hard to choose from given the tasteful variety. The crab soup is always fresh and bountiful, as are mussels, clams, and crab appetizers. Nobody plans to order fried chicken from a fish place located near the ocean, but Northeast’s is among the best at the beach, making the entrée choice even harder. Salmon is sometimes front-and-center at Northeast, its reputation embattled by too much fish farming and appearances at banquet halls, but at NE, it is prepared simply and nearly perfectly every time, a welcome seafood option that does not start with a hard shell. NE is more than a suitable family place, presenting large and airy inside and outside (but covered) dining, with outdoor games when you are waiting for a table. Toddlers can select from a robust kids’ menu while running around the deck area, as the adults enjoy classic coastal grown-up food. Northeast has opportunistic happy hour specials and a spacious bar with inventive cocktails, and the crowd is always lively. Buried in a strip mall off Rt. 26, Northeast has plenty of parking and fun, enjoyed by vacationers and locals alike, all attracted to the same consistency which defines nearly every SoDel restaurant.
