Nantuckets

The aptly-named (for what it is and portends to be), Nantuckets is (intentionally) a geographically-confused Fenwick Island restaurant that presents itself as a traditional New England eatery.  By design, the restaurant exhibits a very Cape Cod-centric look, feel, and fare, like an old Faneuil Market seafood haunt serving fresh-off-the-boat fish and crab inspired dishes, with more than a sprinkle of steak and chops joining the expansive menu.  While geographically a beach area restaurant, you might expect to find the khaki and blazer crowd with a ‘Sox game on the big screen, and plenty of cheers and beers among the regulars. But plenty of shorts and (collar-up) polos abound, with the requisite dock shoe-wearing patrons to deliver the intended New England promise.  The food is good and the dishes plentiful, but nothing uniquely stands out, not even its varied offerings interjecting some form of the ubiquitous lobster (what else?) and crab (of course).  The prices stand out too, so bring your family and have your accountant on speed-dial, but so does the service, which is attentive and sprite. Nantuckets is the type of place you may find more comfortable during Delmarva’s winter months; it certainly has that appearance and ‘heavy’ menu approach.  Each dish is accompanied by a variety of sides and extras, and the chops are good but not worthy of the downtown Boston pricing.  It is hard not to like Nantuckets, but equally difficult to spend a precious vacation night visiting it during a hot summer evening with so many better coastal options in that heightened price range.  Nantuckets offers a tap room with a more limited menu accompanied by a wide variety of cocktails, with expert and likeable bartenders at your ready, their friendly smile and ‘little black books’ replaced by iPhone contacts and Instagram posts.  If its address was, say, Beacon Hill, then you might expect to find the local Norm and Cliff imposters sitting at the bar, spinning the day’s yarns.  Still, Nantuckets is a Fenwick Island mainstay, and almost always delivers sound food and drink, remaining a destination where regulars abound and tourists mingle, but where almost nobody knows your name.  Cheers . . .
