Dos Locos
A Rehoboth Beach Mexican food destination since 1992, Do Locos specializes in ‘stone-grilled’ beef, seafood, and chicken dishes, along with the usual Mexican staples: tacos, nachos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajita, and American-inspired dishes, and just about everything in between. With a menu this expansive, nothing usually stands out, and Do Locos is no exception. The cavernous place seats large parties but the cafeteria approach to slinging food from a menu that offers every Tex-Mex option possible suggests no bueno. A proper restaurant does not elicit excitement because it makes good drinks, which are incidental to, or at most enhance a proper dining experience, and, so, while Dos Locos boasts the “Best Margaritas in Rehoboth Beach,” such a distinction, even if true, does not scale a restaurant up the food star list. Incidentally, an authentic Mexican restaurant should have good margaritas, which are not difficult to make even when ‘fresh squeezed’ does not mean ‘fresh squeezed’ at the restaurant or in front of you, but refers, possibly, to being squeezed at a South American processing plant filling industrial vats of juice for distribution to American bars with well liquor stations. Indeed, it was ‘fresh squeezed’ at some industrial plant point. Dos Locos has a plum Rehoboth Beach location, an impressive space accommodating plenty of diners, and is decorated nicely in an off-the-rack Mexican tradition. Too bad that the food and service are similarly off-the-rack, but the difference is with this purchase, no returns accepted (or desired)!
