Crust & Craft

We know “Crust” in the restaurant’s name is pizza, but does “Craft” stand for beer or the make-your-own pizza via toppings menu?  Perhaps both, but the SoDel Concepts owners inform that C&C has such a great variety “Beer Cellar” menu, that “Craft” stands for its unique list of available suds.  Well, that is only partially true, because there aren’t enough beer options to warrant calling the strip mall location a craft beer outlet, but then again, “Crust” also is a misnomer because its pizza version is the soft, chewy kind of (sometimes) under-cooked dough, not the crusty, well-done type which is common from a wood burning oven.  Crusty pies deliver that smokey flavor that brick oven places are known for and which draw customers away from strip-mall pizza shops, but “Crust and Craft” needs to ensure its red sauce and toppings are not over-cooked, giving the pies that ‘needed 2 more minutes in the oven’ taste.  The non-pizza offerings are passable, but nothing spectacular, as C&C draws most of its customers from the next-door outlet shopping mall, who are more than pleased to enjoy hand-made pizza made your way, along with a craft beer or two.  C&C is a pleasant enough space with tables evenly spaced, and never too crowded.  It is not worthy of a special journey, nor one to be ignored if you are shopping in the area and the family desires something more than the local pizza joint.
